MARDAN: The Christians in Mardan have requested the chief justice of Peshawar High Court to take notice of the illegal occupation of the church and order its evacuation. A large number of Christians gathered at Mardan Press Club to record their protest and demonstrated in favour of their demand.
The protesters say that 5 kanal land had been bought from a man named Gul Nabi for the sake of building a church near Mardan Sugar Mills. The man cunningly handed over the possession to the Christians but skipped the mention of the building of the church in the papers.
As time passed, the Christians kept collecting funds for building the church. But as they succeeded in collecting enough funds and told Gul Nabi to get the land registered with the Auqaf and the department of religious affairs so that they wouldn’t have to face any problems, the man obstinately refused to do so.
The Mardan Christians have requested Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Yahya Afridi to take the notice of the issue and get the land evacuated.
